Connection - User name - Password

What is "Visitor" mode?
The "Visitor" button in the registration window lets you log into the game without a user name or a password. With the "Visitor" mode, your can watch the game but you can't play.

What to do if I forgot my user name?
Use the "Recover password" in the registration window that will redirect you to the web page where you can receive your user name. To do this, enter the email you used when you registered. A copy of the welcome message that you received will be sent to your email.

What happens if I use the wrong password?
Nothing, it can be wrong several times.

Can I change my password?
No, it is the system that chooses your password. In the case that you have trouble with your password (for example, someone found your password) "Contact us" will respond to your request.

What to do if my connection isn't working
Go to the game's website to see if the site responds and if the players are playing. You can watch the game in progress on the website using the "current game" link on the homepage. If the game continues without you, try to connect again, or restart the computer. Do not reinstall the game, there aren't any other components or adjustments elsewhere. If the game is not working, please send an email to report the outage.

What to do if I don't have a user name?
The "Create your user name" button in the registration window redirects you to the registration web page that will register you to the game. From this page, you can choose and create a user name. After that, your password will be sent in a welcome message that will be sent to the email provided during registration.

What to do if I don't have a password?
If after trying the "Retrieve Password" button you still don't receive your password, check your junk mail. If your have a system that filters unwanted spam, temporarily disable it and use the "Recover Password" again.

Can I change my user name?
No, to change your user name you will need to register again.

Can I choose any user name?
No, if the user name is already in use, you must choose another. You should not use a user name that is vulgar or offensive to any person or groups of people.

What does "remember password" mean?
This check box allows you to save your password to the page so you don't have to re-enter it each time you connect to the game. Beware, if someone other than you uses your computer and the password is stored, it can let them play with your user name.

Is my user name permanent?
Yes, if you are a subscriber. If you are not subscriber and you do not play for several months it will be disabled.

How can I connect?
To connect to the game you must install the game BestWordClub on your computer. Use the "download" link on the homepage of the site to direct you to the download page. Then install and start the game.

Rules of the game

How to play?
You have seven letters in the "Bridge" which is on the game board. Use these letters to make the most profitable word on the board. Once your word is on the board, press the "Validate" button to send it to the server. If you find a better word to place on the board place it on the board then click "Validate".

How are the points counted?
Your points are counted by adding the points for each word played in every round. Only the last word validated counts on each turn.

Do the players use the same letters?
Yes, all players connected use the same letters and have the same amount of time to play.

Do the players use the same game board?
Yes, all players connected play on the same board with the same words on the board.

Are the letters randomly selected?
Yes, the letters are drawn at random. However, if there are no vowels and two consonants, the system will draw again. Similarly, if the draw doesn't make a word of at least 20 words, the system will also draw again.

When does the game end?
The game ends when there are less than 7 letters in the bag.

How is the word chosen on the board each turn?
The computer chooses the word that is played on the board. The computer places the word that is worth most that can be played with the letters drawn. If there are several words possible, (iso-tops), the computer chooses the on that makes the most openings for the rest of the game.

Can I change the letters on the board?
No, all players have the same letters which they can't change.

Is there a point minimum to find?
Yes, you must make a word of at least one point. Keep in mind that at every turn there is a possibility for a word that is worth 20 points.

Can you play an invalid word?
No, if you play a word that is not in the dictionary, the system will not accept your word.

Which is the dictionary used?
See "Dictionaries"

Can I use all my time to validate my word?
No, the stopwatch on the left of the bridge zone tells you how long you have to validate your word.

What happens if I don't validate my word?
Nothing, your cumulative score will stay the same. Your name will remain in the "Players Ranking" but will not be found in the "Result of the move".

Game board

Can I change the appearance of the game board?
Yes, you can choose between two different game boards. Use the small triangle in the right corner of the board to change from one to the other.

Why aren't the "Bonus" boxes indicated?
If the "Bonus" box is a solid color and not identified as a "triple-word count" for example, it is that you have changed your game board. To find the text in the "Bonus" box again, click on the small triangle in the upper right corner of the game board.

Why are there letters framed in blue?
The letters framed in blue are the letters that were used on the board in the previous move.

Why are the yellow letters at zero points?
The yellow letter with zero points are the jokers. When the joker, or blank (tile with no letters) is played, the system will show which letter represents the wild card on a yellow tile.

What do the little letters A and O on the side do?
The small letters on the left side of the board are used to identify each line of the game. In the same way, the numbers above are used to identify the columns. Each box on the game board is identified by a coordinate using one letter and one number.

What are the little numbers 1 to 15 up top?
The small numbers above are used to identify the columns. In the same way, the letters on the left side are used to identify each line. Each box on the game board is identified by a coordinate using one letter and one number.

I just connected to the game, why are words already on the board?
The games are played one after another with a 5-minute break in between. Therefore, it is very likely that when starting the game a group is already playing. Feel free to join the current game.

The stop watch

Why only 2 minutes to play?
When you are new to the game, 2 minutes can go by quickly, however, you get used to the pace. Know, that with a period of 2 minutes to play a game can average at least three-quarters of an hour.

What is the bell?
The bell is used to adjust the sound while you are playing. Click on the bell to change modes. The sound is muted when the bell has two red lines crossing it. If there is only one line across the bell there will be a beep at 30 seconds left, another at 15 seconds, then a beep every 2 seconds during the last 5 seconds left to play. If the bell doesn't have any red lines across it, there will be a beep every two seconds during the last 30 seconds you have left.

The "Bridge" zone

Where do you find the letters to play?
The letters you need to make your move are in the "Bridge" zone of the game. The "Bridge" itself is found on the game board, it contains 7-letters.

How to bring the letters on the bridge?
Pres "Escape" or "Esc" return all the letters you just placed on the game board.

How to bring one letter on the bridge?
Right-click your mouse on a letter on the game board so it returns to the bridge.

How to mix the letters of the bridge?
Press the F3 key, the letters will then be mixed for you. Maybe you will see a word?

How to place the letters in alphabetical order on the bridge?
Press the F2 key to alphabetize the letters on the bridge.

How to submit the letters in the first place?
Press F4 to return the letters to the order they were in at the beginning of the move.

Can I move the letters with the mouse?
Yes, to form your word on the game board, you can use the mouse. To do this you click on a letter, hold the mouse button down, then drag your letter onto the game board or on the bridge.

Playing with the keyboard

Can I use the keyboard to play?
Yes, this way is faster. Type your word on the keyboard and it will form the word using the game pieces on the game board.

How do I move the word using the keyboard?
You can move the word by using the arrow keys on the keyboard. You can also use your mouse to move the word.

How do I change the orientation on the word using the keyboard?
Press the space bar or the right-click on the mouse to change the orientation of the word (horizontal to vertical and vice versa).

How do I remove the word on the board using the keyboard?
Place your word on the board then press the Enter key or left-click on the mouse. Once you press Enter, the word will be validated, which means, it will be sent to the server, which is not what happens when you left-click on the mouse.

How to validate word using the keyboard?
Once the word is on the board, press Enter.

How do I type Spanish words using the keyboard?
Press "1" for the letter "ch", "2" for the letter "ll", "3" for "ñ" and "4" for "rr".

Why can't I make a "K" or a "W" with the joker?
If you are playing in Spanish, you can't play with the letters "K" and "W" because they aren't part or the game bag.

The WWW menu

What is the WWW menu?
The WWW menu lets you open web pages related to the site, your statistics and current game.

Why isn't the WWW menu working?
If you select menu items and a WWW web page doesn't open, make sure your system is configured to define a web browser by default.

The FR-EN-ES menu

What is the FR-EN-ES menu?
It is used so you can choose in which language you want to play. When you change the language, the interface of your game doesn't change but the letters used and the dictionary change.

Can I play in another language?
Yes, your user name is the same. However, your score and players in your group will probably be different. If you play in another language you will have more than one statistic sheet.

Are the rules the same in all the languages?
Yes, only the values and quantities of the letters change. The reference dictionary is adapted to the language you choose.

The W2 button

What is the W2 button?
It lets you open the web page that displays all valid two letter words. From this page you can then go to lists of hundreds of other words.

The game BestWordClub

What is the game BestWordClub?
The game BestWordClub, is the software that allows you to connect and play online Scrabble.

Is the game BestWordClub free?
Yes, it can be downloaded for free. There is no charge for connecting to the game servers or to play the game.

How does the site pay for itself?
The site pays for itself with the subscriptions to the game.

Are there restrictions on the free version?
No, the free version is the same version used by the "subscribed" players. The only difference is the 50 point bonus awarded when a "subscribed" player uses a 7 letter word.

Subscriptions

Why pay for the subscription?
To allow the site to stay online and improve development :-). The subscription can get you 50 bonus points when you play a word on the board with all the letters of the bridge. The players who are non-subscribers do not get this bonus.

Are there restrictions for those who aren't subscribed?
Yes, unsubscribed players do not receive the 50 bonus points when placing the seven letters of the bridge. This is the only restriction.

How do you subscribe?
By clicking on the green dollar sign ($) in the upper right hand corner of the game, the subscription web page will open.

How long does the subscription last?
The time remaining with the contract is stated in the title bar of your BestWordClub game.

Does my subscription renew automatically?
No, if the subscription expires, you can subscribe again by clicking on the button with the green dollar sign.

Can I extend my subscription before it expires?
Yes, click on the button with the green dollar sign to be directed to the subscription page. The new subscription will be added to the end of the current subscription.

The "Envelope" button

What does the envelope button represent?
If you click this button, you will be redirected to the messages for players page.

Why is the envelope button blinking?
The envelope button blinks when there is a new message to the players. Click on the envelope to read the message.

The "help" button

Where do you get help with the game?
To consult with game help, click on the yellow button in the upper right corner with the question mark (?) or press the F1 key.

How do you reactivate the pop up help messages?
Press "ctrl" and click on the button with a yellow question mark (?) to reactivate the pop up help messages.

Are there pop up help messages?
Yes, when you install the game for the first time, the pop up help messages appear.

"Player's ranking" zone

Where are the player's rankings displayed?
The "Players ranking" is the list at the top right corner of the game grid. Any player who plays a part in the group will have their name in this list.

What is the "#"?
Is the ranking of each player in the list starting at one.

What is the "Rating" column?
This column is each player's score. If the player has yet to score, a line will be substitute it. The higher the player's rating, the better the player is.

What is the "Top" column?
This column is the number of times a player has played the word with the highest score for the group. They say the player has played the top when they have found the best possible word, in other words, the word with the highest score. It may be the word chosen by the system or another word with the same value.

What is the "Time" column?
This column indicates the total time used by the player to validate the words he/she has chosen.

What is the black triangle?
The lowest rankings are displayed in two ways, by either displaying the score of each player, or displaying the difference of points using the total points of all the best words in the game. Use the triangle to switch from one mode to another

What is the "Points" column?
Click the black triangle on the right, in the classifications title area to change from "Gap" mode to "Points" mode.

What is the "Dif." column?
Stands for "difference" which is used to tell the difference between the points scored by the player and the total points of the best words he/she could have played in the current game.

What are the little red numbers?
The little red numbers indicate the player's position in match or the group. If at the end of the game, a little red number is next to your user name, then you have won a second or third place (indicated by number) which will be shown in your personal record.

Why is "top" written instead of the number?
In the case that the display mode is set to "gap" and the player has a score equal to the game total, then the top word is entered. This way it is understood that the player did not lose any points from the maximum points that could be played in the game.

Why are there no little red numbers?
The small numbers "1", "2", and "3" indicate how many positions need to be added. There must be at least 5 players in your group.

How are tied players sorted?
To sort the players in the case of a tie, the following factors are considered in order of importance: first the score, then the number of tops, then the best odds over time. If all these elements do not break the tie, seniority will be the last determining factor.

"Your group" zone

What is the "Your group" zone?
This zone is at the button of the "Player's ranking" zone. This is the ranking of players in your group. Therefore, this allows you to look for players with similar strengths.

How are the groups different?
There are 6 groups: elite, expert, advanced, intermediate, novice, and unclassified. Your group depends only on your player's rating.

Why are there no little red numbers?
The small numbers "1", "2", and "3" indicate how many positions need to be added. There must be at least 5 players in your group.

"Result of move" zone

What does the "Results of the move" mean?
It is a list of all the players who have played the previous move. If you are playing the game but didn't validate your word in the previous move, your user name will remain in the high ranking area but won't be on the bottom list.

Why isn't my user name on the list?
Because you have not validated your word in the previous move. Placing your word on the grid is not enough, you must validate it (by pressing the button with the red hook).

Score zone

Where is my score shown?
Your total score is displayed in blue on the right of the game board just below the "Result of the move" zone. Your total score is also displayed to the left of your user name in the player's rankings.

What is the number under my score?
This is the total of the game, in other words, the sum of all the words played on the board.

Why is there a percentage in the score zone?
The percentage represents the ratio of total points you have obtained and the total points of all the best words played on the board.

The "Validate" button with a red hook

What is the "validate" button?
The "Validate" button, represented by a red hook, lets you send your word to the server. If the word is validated by the system, the text to the left of the button will show the validation, coordinate, and the score of the word.

Can I use the "validate" button several times?
Yes, you can send the server as many words as you want. Only the last "Validation" will be taken into account.

Can I use the "validate" button with an invalid word?
If the word you put on the board is invalid, a message will indicate your word is invalid and will not be sent to the server.

Do I have to use the "validate" button?
No, but the word that you placed on the board won't be sent to the server. Therefore points will not be awarded for your move and the other players will pass you in the rankings.

Why isn't the "validate" button working?
If you don't place a word on the board, or if you place several words on the board at the same time, you will hear a beep and no words will be sent to the server.

"Remainder" zone

What is the "Remainder" zone?
The "Remainder" displays all the remaining letters in the bag, except for those in the "Bridge". This can help you anticipate the reciprocating move.

Why don't the letters have numbers in front?
The number placed before the letter in the "Remainder" zone indicates the numbers of copies of that letter in the bag. If there is no number before the letter, it means there is only one copy of that letter in the bag.

Why are the letters shaded?
When there aren't any copies of the letter left in the bag.

What is a joker?
The wild card or the letter, is a white tile without a letter on it. The player can assign the letter when he is making his word choice.

Display of the word played by the computer

What is the number
It is the number of the move in the game.

What does the number following a letter, or the number following the word played?
It is the coordinate of the word previously played on the game board. If the coordinate begins with a letter, then it is a word place horizontally. If the coordinate starts with a number, it is a words played vertically.

Where is the score of the last word played by the computer?
The system shows the word chosen my the computer, the coordinate, and the score of the word.

What is the text that scrolls under the word played?
The definition of the word chosen by the computer. When the definition is longer than the available space, then the text scrolls.

Where can I find the definition of the word played?
The definition of the word chosen by the computer appears under the word played, just under the "Result of the move" zone. When the definition is longer than the available space the text scrolls.

Dictionaries

What is the dictionary used in French?
The dictionary used in the French version is consistent with the official Scrabble dictionary published by Larousse. This is the dictionary used in Scrabble clubs and tournaments throughout the Francophone world. It contains words from all regions of the Francophone world.

What is the dictionary used in English?
The dictionary used in the English version is consistent with the SOWPODS dictionary. This is the dictionary used in most countries where there are organized Scrabble tournaments. This excludes Canada, USA, and Thailand, they use a dictionary which is slightly different.

What is the dictionary used in Spanish?
The dictionary used in the Spanish version is consistent with the dictionary of "Real Academia de la Lengua Española".

How many words are in the French game?
There are 378,989 words from 2 to 15 letters-long valid in French.

How many words are in the English game?
There are 267,751 words from 2 to 15 letters-long valid in English.

How many words are in the Spanish game?
There are 636,599 words form 2 to 15 letters-long valid in Spanish.

Are all the words in the dictionary playable?
Yes, every word in the dictionary is playable, plural, feminine, verbs…
